Joe and I came together over 5 years ago to talk about recycling in our
schools. The LMHS environmental club had been actively working to
improve our recycling program. Joe wanted his students to get involved at
Penn Valley E.S. His students set up a large cardboard box for collection
and kept a running count on the amount of items being recycled. It was
during this period that we collaborated and the Green Council idea was
born. Since then we have seen significant progress in not only recycling in
all 10 schools in our district, but the adoption of a district "Strategic
Energy Plan." We are currently working on a "Comprehensive
Environmental Impact Reduction Plan" to be introduced to our school
board in the fall of 2010.
